Payton Institute of Good Governance
Balancing Individual Liberty with Collective Good Through Innovation
The Payton Institute of Good Governance (PIGG) develops innovative frameworks to balance technological progress with human values, bringing together thinkers, innovators, and change-makers to explore the profound implications of artificial intelligence on society.
PIGG represents an ambitious vision for addressing one of the most critical challenges of our time: how to balance individual liberty with collective good in an era of rapid technological and social transformation. We are currently moving through distinct phases from concept to reality, with our first public content launch happening now (Summer 2025) and a learning path soft launch planned for early fall 2025.
PIGG is not merely an acronym but a deliberate reclamation of family heritage. The name honors the founder's grandfather, whose legacy profoundly shaped the organizational worldview. When the family name changed from Pigg to Payton in 1987, an important connection to family history was altered. The PIGG organizational name deliberately preserves and celebrates this ancestral surname.
PIGG's central thesis addresses a fundamental tension in democratic societies: how do we preserve individual freedoms while ensuring collective prosperity and security? This challenge has become particularly acute in the digital age, where technological advancement can either enhance democratic participation or enable authoritarian control.
Unlike think tanks established purely for policy influence, PIGG's foundation in family heritage provides authentic grounding in American democratic traditions. This heritage connection offers:
